Navy Wife

January 20th 2004

The old ladies across the street brought these oranges from Florida, they do this every year. “Groves” oranges actually (ironic), and they are absolutely the juiciest oranges I have ever had. We usually just poke a hole in the side and drink the juice because there is so much of it.

The other day when all of us girls went out, we had driven through a rather industrial part of Baltimore (least I think it was Baltimore….tho I’m a country girl so I was quite lost). It was night time, and quite beautiful to see all of the tall buildings lit up.

At one point we drove over some large river (again no idea where we were), and there were some naval ships docked at the edge of the river. Quite the flashback for me, remembering all the times I was in and out of the Naval Base in Norfolk Virginia. I loved going there at night, seeing steam come from the grates in the ground, how void everything was of human activity, only the sound of steam and various machines doing whatever it is they do.

I was very priviledged to be able to see aircraft carriers up so close, and watching submarines being lifted from the water for repairs. Our apartment at the time was right down the street, and large military aircraft flying over (and extremely low) was an everyday occurance. I got used to it.

When I was 16, I flew out to Chicago to be with “Ex #1″ while he was in boot camp in Waukegan. Quite a big thing for me at the time, being so young and flying so far away by myself. But I managed. On the way home, I had just enough money to take the shuttle from my hotel down to Chicago O’Hara airport. I had no money, just my ticket to get me home.

However my plane was delayed 10 hours, and I was starving. So I stole coffee creamers from one of the food places and drank them :P
Just before “Ex #1″ and I got married, I took a Greyhound to Biloxi Mississippi, 32 hours one way. Many layovers, Atlanta Georgia is nice at night time, Mobile Alabama looked like quite the crap town.

I dunno, a part of me misses being a military wife. I mean there were a lot of bad things about it, the lack of money the crappy neighborhood, the constant deployments and duty days. But I enjoyed the structure of it, the order maybe? I’m not sure.

I’m very grateful to be home though. I originally moved home because “Ex #1″ was due for a 6 month deployment and I didn’t want to live down there by myself for that long. Also I didn’t like being away from my father because while I was down there, he had a stroke (I guess in November 2001?) and I would never forgive myself if something happened to him and I couldn’t be here. And obviously “Ex #1″ and I were pretty much separated, so there was no reason for me to stay.

Anyway, a trip down memory lane.

[Edit] I should contact old friends more often. I was treated to a nice Thai restaurant then taken out for “Reeses Pieces” icecream *drool*.

Welp, coffe house is closed tonight so no gig. But my friend Jake is taking me out to dinner.

Girls Day Out

January 16th 2004

Had a wonderful girls day out yesterday. Wasn’t too fond of getting up at 8am, especially going to bed at 6am. Sati picked me up, along with KaeLea, Another girl I didn’t know, Dani, and Alison. Well technically we met the last two.

We went to The Walnut Tree, which actually had a lot of selection from what I could tell. And some -gorgeous- crystals. I bought an amber sphere and the new Witches Datebook because that’s about all I could afford. (Of course now I regret it since I have NO gas money).

After that we decided to head to some French Cafe called Le Madeleine’s or someting like that. Wonderful food, very french. Course, again I had no money. I really wanted to take a jar of their basil tomato soup home with me. Probably the most fancy place I’ve ever eaten.

After that we went to Hot Topic and Torrid in some mall. Again, I had no money, so could only sit and watch everyone else shop and stare at all the stuff I wanted lol. Oh well, I had a good time. Much motivation to get my ass in gear and get a job.

Afterwards we went to the Lore Meeting at CedarLight, but I kept yawning and couldn’t really focus on paying attention because I was so tired from no sleep the night before.

Sati and KaeLea came over my house after Lore Meeting to watch Stargate or something, and Sati accidentally slammed my hand in the car door lol. It’s alright now tho, just a little sore.

Tonight Sati wants me to go to the coffee shop. I’m still debating. I MIGHT go and play some music if they don’t have any entertainment scheduled, and put out a tip jar so I can get some gas money. But I doubt I’d get much because it wasn’t announced ahead of time. And I have a very low confidence anyway.

In order to get there tho, I might have to offer to take “Ex #1″ along, and see if he’ll give me some gas money. So if you’re IN THE AREA, stop by and see me peform badly :P
Just got back from the salon, I’m ready to tackle some interviews now.

Employment, FedEx, Imbolc Performance, Tanker Crash

January 14th 2004

So some FedEx guy fell asleep and plowed through our yard today, tearing out our mailbox, along with the 30 foot steel pole it was attached to. Killing our egg sign (we sell brown eggs), and being a general annoyance. Not sure what my dad said to him, everyone is telling me we should sue, but it’s entirely up to my dad. And we don’t own this property anyway, we rent.

Huge Accident here in Maryland yesterday. A big fuel tanker plunged off a bridge and landed on the major highway that goes up and down the east coast. I saw the beginning news report on it and it was just a mess. I’m so glad I wasn’t working in Baltimore because the traffic must have been horrible.

Applied for two jobs today, one as an Office Assistant for a stove company, and the other as a receptionist for a Retirement Community. Hopefully I’ll hear something about them soon.

Sati is taking me out all day tomorrow to some pagan shop in Baltimore, then to some goth clothes shop and to lunch with a bunch of other girls from CedarLight. It’s supposed to snow and ice tonight though, with incredibly cold temperature so it may get cancelled.

I have a performance coming up on the first of February during the Imbolc High Rite at CedarLight. Sati and I re-wrote the lyrics to Collective Soul’s “Shine” as a praise offering to the Goddess Brigid. I’ve also started a music portfolio, which will be here when I’m finishied. Nothing is uploaded yet tho, I haven’t recorded anything substantial yet.

Not really in the mood to start writing about all the emotional stuff right now. Maybe later.

Dad’s health is failing

January 12th 2004

I’m really worried about my dad. He’s got another ulcer in his leg. We spent all that time last year and all that money getting them taken care of, and now one is starting to grow again.

His health insurance hasn’t kicked in fully yet, so we’re still waiting on that, even though he’s already paid for it…….

And now he’s telling me that he’s feeling really tired today, and his sugar was up really high the other day.

Must pamper him.

I hope he’s okay.
