Too much meat for me

November 27th 2005

I’m plain tuckered out.

Worked on the deer for probably 4-5 hours today. We took him down from where we had him hanging to dry out, and my dad attempted to rig a pulley system on a tree branch to hoist him up with so we could skin him. We finally got the rope over the branch way up in the tree, and my dad attempted to lift the deer while I pulled on the other end. I wasn’t quite strong enough, and received a lot more rope burn on top of yesterday.

Eventually the branch broke which sent the deer flying, along with myself, and I was able to bust my knee open. Always fun. So we said screw that and created a makeshift table with two sawhorses and a piece of plywood. A lot harder to skin this way by hand, but we managed.

After we skinned him and chopped off his head (grotesque, I know), we began to cut him up. Our hacksaw was dull so my father had to use a chainsaw on some pieces, which ended up with him flinging pieces of meat and stuff at me. Thanks dad :P

While we worked on the deer, our neighbors out back through the woods decided to walk over to get eggs. They’re city folk. I saw them heading our way, but I guess when they saw us hacking away at this poor corpse, they decided to turn around and go back home.

My dad took the pelt and head to my uncles, and I decided to get frostbite on my hands by cleaning all the meat in cold cold COLD water and then bagging it up for freezing.

After all that, I decided I wasn’t in the mood to eat any meat for dinner, so I made a sandwich.

Dad’s Birthday

I’ve decided on my father’s birthday gift.
A book on guinea fowl and I’m paying off his feed store debt (about $400-$500). A friend has also volunteered to put $50 towards my fathers feed store debt for his birthday.
