A Rant
I’m a little less than thrilled about the setup for the winter solstice/yule ritual at the Grove this year. I don’t mind the 24 hour vigil, like we did 2 years ago, if that’s what it is. But now they’ve decided to start the ritual at midnight, followed by the yearly Grove party?
So not only have we decided the ritual will start at midnight, and alienated anyone who can’t stay late (Frog for example), whereas last year, at least the ritual started at noon, had vigil again at 6pm, again at midnight, and again at 6am, with a closing at noon the next day. But directly after the midnight ritual (with no loud noises, shouting, chanting, drumming, music, or talking, because of the neighbors in the city), we’re supposed to have the Grove party (again with no loud noises, shouting, music, talking). And I’m sorry, if you’re doing it Norse sumble style? It’s not going to be quiet.
Each year the Grove party has always been a members only, INVITATION only even, that allowed alchohol, since during our public gatherings we don’t permit alcohol, as stated in our rules posted all over the Grove. And now I guess the Grove party is going to be for anyone and everyone who shows up (this was supposed to be a bonus of membership, which had been a big issue with the witan until now I guess), so we’ll have drunk strangers staying up till all hours at the Grove.
And if that’s not all, we’re supposed to get up early to have a board meeting and elections the very next day.
And I’m apparently the only one that sees any problem with any of this. I was going to take my sister with me to the ritual, but I don’t want her around drunk strangers, I don’t want to be there if the cops show up about all the noise being made after 10pm, and I’m not staying up all night when there’s a business meeting the next morning. The grove isn’t about all this partying that people seem hyped up about.
So now I’m trying to decide whether to even go to the Grove for Yule. I will mostly now bypass it and maybe go to Highland Farms instead. And then drive down in the morning for the board meeting.
