Old Friends

December 24th 2005

I was invited out by my old highschool friends last night, just to hang out, and for dinner. This is the first time I’ve been to Clay’s and Megans new house.

They prepared a nice persian meal (they are both Bahá’í ), for about 10 of us, none of the foods of which I can remember the name of, but they were delicious. And apparently prepared all 10 of us a box of homemade confectionaries. I was impressed, it was very pioneering of her, and I always respect that.

They also, as a gag gift, gave me some cock soup. Yes. Cock Soup.

We talked, laughed, caught up on each others lives, since we are unable to hang out as frequently as we would like. Unlike highschool, we all have significant others now, fulltime jobs, homes to upkeep. A lot different then when we all grew up together. But the thing about friends like these, true friends, is no matter how long inbetween you see each other, every time you get back together, it’s as if you never left. Even when I moved to Norfolk for 2 years on the naval base, when I came back, I felt at home, like I was always home.

These are friends for life. I’ve known most of them since I was 11 years old. I’ve held buckets under their head while they puked from drinking too much, I’ve seen them heartbroken, I’ve held their hand at funerals, and I send their parents Christmas cards. We’re all just a big family. And it’ll only keep growing, when we’ve all gotten married, had children.

What is even more interesting, is how diverse we all really are. Clay and his wife, both Bahá’í, and so completely in love with each other, that they make sure they both get jobs at the same place. So sickeningly sweet. Dan, studying buddhism, an editor, writer, journalist, and his girlfriend Heather, a vegetarian and feminist. Jake, a hardcore republican, lutheran, your typical male jackass who loves meat, and picks on Heather for putting veggie burgers on his grill. Scott, a hardcore catholic, who reminds me of “The Monk” because he hates germs, and is anal about keeping his hands clean. Also the one whose ass I kick in bocce all the time. And of course me, the pagan, the naturalist, the pain in the ass who drives big trucks and goes hunting.

Call me amused.

Witches Weekly

December 22nd 2005

I’ve resurrected Witches Weekly, complete with a new layout and conversion to Wordpress. I was going to export all my Movable Type files over for the archives, but in the slew of hacker attempts on my other domains, I think some sort of CHMOD change has made it go kaput. I’ve tried reinstalling it but it’s not cooperating. So no archives yet. (If anyone wants to help me get MT working again so I can get the archives, I’d appreciate it). I may also need help incorporating Enthusiast files into the WP layout.

I’m wondering if I should have even tried to ressurrect WW. A lot of the older questions are generic, and I’ve had requests for more in-depth questions (perhaps 1 a week instead of 3). But some days my mind just goes blank.

We’ll see how it goes at least.

Another Theft

December 21st 2005

You know, I really don’t understand why people steal from poor folks. If you’re going to steal gas, wood, tools, etc, steal it from someone who can afford it. Hell, don’t steal at all, earn your way like the rest of us, asshat.

My neighbor just called. Apparently my other neighbor, who is well-known for stealing from various people in the neighborhood, has been loading up and stealing firewood today. The same firewood that was donated from the golf course a while back. When the wife had gone outside to move the car around, she saw him carrying wood back to his house from our yard. Then when the husband came out to go get the mail, he saw the same neighbor walking with a wheelbarrow towards our house. He saw my one neighbor watching him, so he stopped and turned around and went back to his house. Then later, came back out again with the wheelbarrow and carried a load back to his house.

I have a state trooper heading over there now, and I already called my dad and told him, so he’s heading back home right now.

What I don’t get is, after all this went down, the thief neighbor apparently walked over to the spying neighbor and said my dad gave him permission to take some wood. Which #1, my father never mentioned to me when I told him about it and that I had called the cops. And #2, we burn firewood like nobodies business because it’s our only heating source. So why would we give it away? It’ s a precious commodity around these parts.

This is all just really aggravating. The guy has already been caught stealing 15 recycling bins from the neighborhood (which he had to return), stealing papers, stealing deer antlers from me and my father, etc. You’d think after all that, he’d stop.
