Dream: Grizz
I was “Little House on the Prairie” a lot, so a lot of times that setting ends up in my dreams.
There was a large wooden barn, an old barn, at least 100 years old with several lofts and such. It was abandoned, so there was no hay or anything like that. I had rode up to it on a horse and noticed there were two children inside, hiding, though they were peeking out from one of the lofts. So I dismounted and climbed inside to talk to them. Apparently a large Grizzly was in the area and had chased them inside.
Of course about this time my horse starts going crazy, and runs off, and here comes this massive “Night of the Grizzly” bear. So I was like “holy shit” and hoisted myself up into the loft with the kids. It kept pushing against walls, tearing at the boards, with this sick throaty growl that made you think of nothing else but being gnawed on and ripped to pieces.
Eventually it gave up again and continued to stalk around outside. Sometimes we could see it, sometimes we couldn’t, but we were pretty much stuck there. When he was a safe distance away, I climbed down enough to see what tools I could find in the barn. I managed to find an old hammer and a board with some bent nails that I proceeded to yank out with the claw of the hammer. I mostly just wanted to replace holes in the wall that were closest to us and reinforce the barn door so we could shut and lock it. Sometimes I’d have to climb back into the loft when the Grizz came near, but I eventually got it done, so we felt a little safer.
I wasn’t exactly sure how I was going to get us out, so we mostly sat and waited. Any food and supplies I had were in my saddlebags, which were long gone by now. And I didn’t want to risk two childrens lives by trying to make a run for it.
The next day, while the bear was gone off somewhere, I started to hear something in the distance, footsteps it sounded like, not hooves from a horse. And when I looked outside, it was my “Pa,” who in this dream, happened to be Michael Landon from “Little House on the Prairie” (amusing). He had with him some school children that I believe these other two kids belonged to. I ran out quick and directed them all into the barn as fast as I could, explaining to “Pa” what had happened. No sooner did I shut and lock the door, did the Grizz start growling and banging at it.
So we all climbed into the lofts, trying to be quiet, and then I woke up.

Kind of freaky! That dream would scare the crap out of me. I used to watch Little house all the time as a kid, but I can’t say as I ever dreampt about it.
