A limp can be so many things

February 26th 2006

My son is hurt.

Speaking of which, why do people think it’s so strange to call your pet your child? He is my child. I raised him, he’s a part of my family, he has his own personality. He’s my son.

He’s very active, apparently at times to his own demise. He has a bad limp now, which no doubt could be from his daily trist at 8am every morning around his racetrack out back which includes a 3 foot jump. He created it himself, the track, the use of the jump, I’ve never discouraged him from doing it because he seems to love it so much.

But I think he pulled or tore a muscle sometime within the last few days. And trying to deter a hyper dog from being hyper? Near impossible.

It really rips at me to see him in pain though. It’s hard for him to lay comfortably. I have to make sure he doesn’t run around his track anymore for a while, which is not going to be easy because it’s the best part of his day. I have an appointment at the Vet on Friday since I have a half day at work. I only hope I can make him as comfortable as possible until then.

When I worked at the Vet, we had a lot of limp patients come in. X-rays will be mandatory, and expensive. Prescriptions should be too bad, I’m hoping they’ll just put him on some Rimadyl or Torbutrol though that one tends to make patients drousy. And I definitely hope nothing is broke, though I’m pretty sure it’s not because he can walk on it and I can touch it without him wincing too much.

It scares me though, since he -is- my child.

An end to the dealership debacle

February 24th 2006

So after all the issues I was dealing with purchasing my mustang, I’ve now received a card saying my tags are in, and that I can come and pick them up.

Now…I live a good distance away from this dealership, they know this. I would say about an hour, hour and a half depending on traffic. And now they want me to come pick up my tags, and they won’t ship them? Please.

My boss is having her house built about 15 minutes away from the dealership, and they have to go and do drywall inspections and meetings with the builders pretty often. Being as cool as she is, she offered to pretend to be my sister and go pick them up for me on one of her trips to the site.

That should take care of that problem, then hopefully I won’t have to deal with these people anymore.

Pagan Leadership

February 24th 2006

This weekend I will be gone both Saturday and Sunday, attending the Pagan Leadership Conference in Baltimore. I’ll be spending the night at the Grove on Saturday night, and I believe riding with our Senior Druid both days.

I’ve never been to one of these conferences before, I’ve never been to any conferences before really. I’ve been to ADF festivals, but I think this conference is supposed to be more geared towards group management and maybe politics? I’ve no clue.

It’s invitation only, and I’m not sure I’m exactly a good candidate to represent the Grove in going, but I’ll do my best. I don’t consider myself a Pagan leader, heck sometimes I don’t even consider myself a very good Pagan. But perhaps I’ll learn something, or at the very least, take something with me from this experience.

Have I mentioned I hate the city?

MUD ponders on the God of Deceit

February 23rd 2006

I was doing some research on Hyena’s for my MUD, and I was reading through the Wikipedia article which had some interesting facts I wasn’t aware of.

I was originally look at the Hyena as a pet to the God Murelu, who is our God of Deceit, Revelry, and Trickery. He created the Felarae which is a cat/human conglomeration. I wanted two hyena’s chained to his throne, as well as having several domestic cats like the Ancient Egyptians which would be considered a sacred animal. Also since hyena’s are known to sound like they are laughing, are very intelligent hunters, and seem to be more cat-like than dog-like, I thought they’d be suitable as a “pet” for the God of Revelry.

“Hyenas are also highly intelligent predators, even more intelligent than the lions (some scientists claim they are of equal intelligence to certain apes). One indication of hyena intelligence is that hyenas will move their kills closer to each other to protect them from scavengers; another indication is their strategic hunting methods.”

Whether they are more closely related to dogs or cats, no one seems to know for sure. They seem to be more closely related to the mongoose than anything. I figure if they are closer to dogs, it would be fitting for the God who created the Felarae to want them as his pet or slave. If they are more closely related to cats, then like domestic felines, they are another sacred being to the God Murelu himself.

As stated by zoo.org
“Many researchers consider hyenas the evolutionary ‘link’ between dogs and cats but more closely related to cats.”

One of his totems is already a snake, for obvious reasons being the God of Deceit, I think hyenas will fit in well.

Abortions and Freedom of Choice

February 23rd 2006

South Dakota has banned Abortions.

Not that I’d ever get an abortion, even if I was raped I would probably keep the child. But I do think a woman should have the choice, pending what term of pregnancy she is in.

I considered moving to South Dakota at some point in my life, but I am strongly reconsidering now.

Some days I just wonder what it would be like if things were different in the world. If the country wasn’t run by fundamentalist Christians, if people actually practiced what they preached about freedom of choice and religion. I mean really, what would it be like to not have half the United States wake up everyday worrying about whether or not they are going to get persecuted for who they are?

February 23rd 2006

This link shows you how to trim your own hair in three separate ways. Very useful for those with long hair and especially who want to save on salon costs.

Thank God I’m a Country Girl

Today consisted of square-dancing around the office with my co-worker to “Thank God I’m a Country Boy” and the invention of a new recipe which I brought in for lunch made up of boiled brown rice, chicken, with the perfect spread of herbs and spices. I don’t think I could really replicate it into […]
