Dads Diabetes and Leg Infection
February 22nd 2006
Dad went to the doctor yesterday. Apparently he’s gained 10 pounds, which is a big deal for him because of his problems with diabetes. The doctor told him that he needs to work on his diet, or the next step is going to be insulin needles.
Now I’ve been working on my own diet lately, mostly just eating more organic stuff, brown rice, local farm beef, our own eggs, no more sodas, etc. I haven’t really made my dad do the same thing because he’s a stubborn old farmer who likes to eat his sausage and bacon every morning and his cheez-its he’s been eating for 40 years.
So now I think my dad will be more susceptable to me controlling what food we eat, which is a good thing.
In addition, it looks like he’s starting to get an infection in his left leg, which is his good leg. The doctors at the Wound Care Center that have been treating his bad leg, haven’t been bothering with the good one. His regular doctor said that was ridiculous. So she gave him some cream for it, and I told my dad he should join me on my hikes again when his bad leg is finished healing as far as the ulcers go. The regular exercise should keep his sugar down, help him lose some weight, and in the mean time we’ll work on the healthier eating together.
I think in all reality, this is just going to be a constant battle for us. I’ve accepted that, but as long as I can keep him out of as much pain as possible for as long as possible, I’d be able to deal with that I think. I’m just going to have to put my foot down more, dammit.

Katrina Funds hard at work with sex toys
February 20th 2006
According to an article in the New York Times:
Federal Emergency Management Agency officials wasted millions in taxpayer dollars and even put up Hurricane Katrina evacuees in luxury hotels — including a New York hotel that billed the feds $428 per night, federal investigators revealed.
The probers also found widespread abuse of $2,000 debit cards that FEMA provided to evacuees.
Disaster victims were supposed to use the vouchers for emergency expenses, but many racked up expenses as if they were at a bachelor party.
One evacuee spent $400 on a Swedish massage in Irving, Texas, and one paid $150 for “adult erotica products” at a store called Condoms To Go.
Another spent $450 to get an arm tattoo; and another spent $1,300 on a .45-caliber pistol.
Someone used the money to pay off a bail bondsman, one paid $1,100 for a diamond engagement ring, and yet another made several bank withdrawals at a casino.
So glad to know that my tax dollars, and my donations were put to good use. And don’t get me started on the looters.

Natural Living
February 20th 2006
For those interested in a lot of the “Do-it-yourself” survival like I am, I found this interesting link about a small community that create a lot of the self-made yurts and such. They also act as an educational facility for woodland survival and have several DIY guides on creating benders, solar ovens, rag rugs, etc.
I’m actually considering making some rag rugs now, since I tend to run across a lot of excess fabric.

Divorce Part 1
February 18th 2006
Money has been a big factor on the length of time it has taken to get my divorce finalized. Finally, Alex and I have both had the spare money needed to split the cost of the divorce papers through LegalZoom.com. I have officially submitted the information for the paperwork as of about 10:45am this morning. We should receive the prepared documents by the end of next week, where he and I have agreed to sit down and look them over, and submit them to the State of Maryland.
Everything was pretty straight forward and very easy to fill out. What assets need to be split, real estate, retirement plans, vehicles, etc. Pretty much everything has already been split between us for years now, and he’s just purchased his own house and I’ve just purchased my own car, but everything is soley in our own names.
It feels pretty good to take that first big step. Soon I will have my maiden name back again, which I am very proud to be my fathers daughter.

“Fuck” is the word for common folk
February 17th 2006
I had a very boring and pointless all day meeting for work yesterday. I actually enjoy these because it allows me to get out of the office and be catered for lunch with other people that are just as happy to get out of the office. Needless to say, I ownt the class.
Received my federal tax return today, as well as it being payday. I’ve already paid off any debts I owe (besides the car), and will probably do some work clothes shopping. It feels good to have all this money in savings, and have ONE payment to make a month. Makes me feel safe.
All the snow has melted, and I feel like I’ve been offroading with my mustang, it’s so muddy. I like the warm weather because it lifts my spirits. Is it supposed to snow in the northeast region anymore this winter? I’m kinda anxious for spring weather. I have a lot of things I want to get done this year, like working on my bronco, putting my herb garden in gear, going for longer hikes, heck just laying out in the sun.
I was told by someone today that I am very common because of my use of foul language. I bust my ass to take care of my father, I don’t sleep around, I consider myself a fairly clean person (especially in the work place), I hold myself to a fairly high moral stature, yet because I use foul language, that makes me common.
Perhaps the logic behind that statement escapes me. But if the word “fuck” makes me common, then I guess I’m fucking common. So fuck you.
