Summer Solstice
Rain.
And it rained…….and it rained……..and it rained.
Today we had our Summer Solstice/Midsummer ritual at the Grove and it rained. (Pictures and a large video with me drummin in the background)
We set up our ritual space with a cloudy sky outside in the sanctuary. We also put up several large umbrellas, but to no avail. Eventually we just gave up and everyone got soaked. I was hot and humid before the ritual, but when the rain came pouring down, it felt very good on my skin and bare feet. So we got soaked. Everyone, not just a few of us. I drummed in the rain, we stomped in large puddles, we sang in the rain, we praised Dionysus and Selene in the rain. We told the history of CedarLight Grove in the rain, since Midsummer of 1989 is when this Grove was started, 17 years ago. This was our birthday, and we celebrated it in style.
There’s something very spiritual for me about drumming soaked in the rain.
My sister was wary about participating in ritual, because she doesn’t find them very interesting. But since Midsummer is generally our fools right each year, and this one was particularly fun and full of mud and water, she had a good time.
I also got a white gargoyle statue, and since my sweetheart loves gargoyles, I think I’ll name it after him.
On the way home we sang silly songs and pretended to be thugs in my mustang, and now we’re curled up in dry clothes (and my hair always looks really cute and curly from the rain).

The rain managed to hold off until after my summer solstice ritual last night. But we got to hold it outside in a fellow coven member’s beautiful overgrown backyard, complete with stone cirle and arbor. It was amazing.
Thanks for sharing pictures from your solstice!
