Witches Weekly: Politics
This weeks Witches Weekly:
Do you consider yourself a political pagan? If so, what topics are most important to you and why? If you are not a political pagan, why?
I don’t consider myself political about much of anything, really. I suppose if there was something to be political about, the freedom of religion and environmental awareness would be on the top of my list.
Honestly I try to avoid politics as much as possible. Perhaps that is bad for me to do as an American, since people should always fight for their rights, etc. But I think I’m just a big cynnic who cares little about what happens to society as a whole unless it directly affects me. Does that make me a bitch? Probably.
Maybe I grew tired of fighting and explaining within my own family about my beliefs and how they couldn’t take them away from me, that it just lost its luster to want to fight something as big as our government. I applaud those that do, and perhaps one day I will find the desire to be on that line right along with them. Since my fathers stroke in 2001, I’ve just been pouring all of my energy into making sure he’s taken care of.

It does get harder and harder to put out the energy to explain your stance on an issue after you’ve done it for so long. I often find it hard to keep telling people why I feel about a certain issue the way that I do.
And it is rather hard to write a rep when you know that s/he’s not going to change his/her mind just because you feel a certain way.
I don’t blame you.

Wow… my thoughts exactly. I wasn’t able to explain it as well as you… but I feel the very same way. And no, your thoughts don’t make you a bitch… *giggle*
Our government is too big for us… and there’s little just one tiny person can do. I suppose if we’d rally together about something, and picket, we’d, at the least, get attention, but I really think that our government is beyond our reach now. Is that unpatriotic or what? Somebody told me once that if I don’t vote, don’t complain, so I really, really try not to!
However, I have learned that the collective thoughts of our country don’t often mesh with my own. *sigh*

Exactly
I still feel somewhat guilty though, because the more people that feel this way, the less that are fighting for our rights as pagans.
In a way, I actually somewhat enjoy being more in the underground than an open free-for-all religion. That’s where all the organization and fundamentalism comes in.
