Camping
A lot of boring drivel.
Left work early on Friday and navigated my way northwards towards Gettysburg. I’ve never been on I-15 before, or rather not since I was a kid, but the tiny mountains along the road in autumn are positively striking. I wanted to stop and take photos, but I figured I had better keep my attention on driving.
Friday night was fucking cold. I set up the tent cold (and most of the stakes didn’t go into the ground anyway). I started the fire cold. And I slept cold. I slept so cold (no heater) that I had to jump in my car a few times in the middle of the night just to warm my bones up.
Since I lacked so much sleep that night anyway, I was up before it even began to get light out. Had my shower, cooked my breakfast, and even started the fire without any matches, before anyone was even stirring in their warm heated campers.
I think that night ruined me though, because I was very cold the rest of the day. So much that I did give in and sleep in a camper Saturday night, just to warm up.
I was disappointed in the whole camping aspect. I enjoyed being by myself, cooking my breakfast over the campfire Saturday morning. But whenever anyone else was awake, they were pulling out their propane stoves, cooking pancakes, drinking plastic cups, sometimes even throwing plastic and styrofoam in the campfire and wreaking a general havoc on all things campified.
But I did enjoy spending time with the family, so it was a weekend well spent.
The biggest part of the weekend was the celebration of my Uncle Tom’s Birthday. Where he found out both of his daughters had taken pregnancy tests that morning and both were positive. Quite a birthday gift to be a grandfather by your two oldest children the same day.
I’m happy for them both, and I hope that Steph comes home from Germany early to have the baby, because we have things to do woman! Pregnant or not!
