ah ha ha

November 8th 2006

Democrat
1. A politician, frequently a Liberal, who seeks to further his or her political career by complaining about such harmless issues as poverty, environmental destruction, job loss, education, and healthcare, while failing to address the primary concerns of Americans everywhere that they could be killed any second by a terrorist, or even worse, that two men somewhere may want to get married.”

I wanted to avoid all the political spam that’s going on in various blogging/journal venues, but it made me laugh.

Save Charlie

November 6th 2006

A year ago this thanksgiving, my dad and I were blessed with Charlie. Baughers Country Restaurant allowed us to keep him over the winter to take care of him, and come fall, they would have him in their petting zoo at the orchard.

I spoke a few months ago about how there was a guy who wanted to set up a canned hunt with Charlie, and allow his son to shoot him with a bow and arrow for fun.

Well apparently one of the ladies in charge at Baughers (her name is Dottie) is seriously considering letting this happen, instead of giving Charlie to me and my father. I don’t know why she would do this, I think it’s cruel and I’ve grown very fond of Charlie. I’ll even offer to buy him, and my dad said if he has to, he’ll turkey-knap him.

But I’m tempted to have folks email/call/write letters or petitions that they not kill Charlie. The email and phone numbers are on the website if anyone is willing. There’s absolutely no sport in killing such a beautiful animal just for fun.

Space Desktop

November 2nd 2006

There is a space portrait as Wikipedia’s image of the day today. Taken in 1968 by the Apollo 8 crew. I liked it so much I made myself a dual screen version for my work computer, and a 1024×768 version for anyone that wants to use it.

Camping

November 2nd 2006

I’m supposed to go camping this weekend with some family from my moms side. My sister is going, her father is going, our cousin is going, etc. I was hoping to have a nice camping weekend, being outside, sleeping in a tent, eating campfire food, maybe doing some hiking.

I was even trying to think of some things I could do with the pre-teens, like fun nature activities or something.

I’ve gotten an email from one aunt that says they are planning on going out for breakfast Saturday morning (out for breakfast? While camping?) and just received an email from another aunt that says the “campground” is having a “best decorated halloween campsite” and that there will be trick-or-treaters.

I don’t know, but to me this doesn’t really sound like a camping trip. They all use campers anyway, but going out to eat at a restaurant and decorating the campsite just isn’t really my idea of fun.

I suppose it’s too late to back out now.
