Wounded Knee takeover

December 29th 2006

A great montage about Leonard Peltier.

30 years in prison for self-defense. People are released after 2 years for far far worse. Why is this one any different? Gives you only a glimpse of what it must have been like.

Another clip from the Oglala movie done by Robert Redford

Define Irony

December 29th 2006

Church forgets to renew domain name, gets taken over by gay porn site.

Amusing.

And yes I’ve looked at the old URL, and yes it’s a porn site. Actually purchased by Russians apparently.

Sick and Hair

December 28th 2006

I feel like hammered shit with a mix of shittastic. Actually it’s not that bad. I’m surprised it’s not worse. It’s like I’m teetering on the edge of hammered shit and pre-hammered shit. If that makes any sense.

I decided since I got my new boar-bristle brush, that I would attempt what many others seem to do on a regular basis, and not wash my hair everyday. I’m a stickler for clean hair, and religiously wash my every single day unless I know I’m just doing dirty work around the house.

So today I took a shower, and didn’t wash my hair. Already I hate it, and will never do it again. But we’ll see how I feel throughout the day. The boar-bristle brush is supposed to help spread the natural oils of your hair evenly from root to tip. It does help with that, but it still doesn’t feel squeaky clean, and my scalp just feels, unwashed, and even sorta itchy. And I hate having an itchy scalp, so much that I’ll add tea tree oil to my conditioner, just for that minty tingly feeling.

I really don’t know how people do it. When I worked at Terminix, we had this girl there who was very cute, had very pretty brown hair, and she said she’d wash it maybe once a week, once every two weeks, because otherwise it would be too poofy.

I guess it’s not for everyone.

Defeating teh sickness

December 27th 2006

I think I might use Javascript to develop some online flash card pages for my Cherokee, rather than trying to make my own. They do sell some Cherokee Syllabry Flash Cards, but I might be able to create the same thing digitally.

Last week I saw a red-tailed hawk, two days in a row, resting on the same powerlines, in the exact same position. Wasn’t there this morning, but I miss being able to see them on the way to work like I did when I worked at Terminix.

Ordered a new 500 watt power supply for my computer. My sweetheart thinks that mine is going up because when I start certain programs or even try to use my dvd burner, they work fine for a few seconds and then the computer just shuts entirely down. Right now all I can do is work on websites and play on the MUD. I can’t burn anything, I can’t balance my checkbook in MS Money, etc.

I’ve caught some sort of sickness, I’m guessing from my sister, or from the Grove. I don’t go anywhere, and I keep my desk at work fairly sterile (I even keep organic hand sanitizer here). I’ve been hopped on Echinacea and Vitamin C with some garlic mixed in. I’m also drinking some green tea at work and blackberry brandy at home to help sooth my throat, even if it’s not sore yet. I think I’m doing pretty good at trying to defeat it so far. My ears were ringing this morning and now I’m feeling a lot better. Since I was bed-ridden last February, I’ve been very adamant with my vitamins, so hopefully that’ll conquer the sickness.

My dad and I broke open that wine I mentioned before from a client at work. Wasn’t impressed at all. As a matter of fact, I think it tasted terrible. Aquired taste, no doubt. The sentiment was still nice though. I’d like to find a nice sweet red wine. My friend Frog who is a bartender in Baltimore suggested something called “RedCat” that I might check out. Otherwise I’ll stick with the stuff that the local folk make and bring to ritual.

Politics are teh sux

December 25th 2006

I was peeling potatos with my dad just now, and he was telling me this story of a concrete job he helped his friend Buzz with. The owner is German, and was talking to them about these oil wells in Oklahoma. He and his friend had put bids on buying some of these oil wells, and once they won, started pumping like $100,000 worth of oil out of them a -day-. Then apparently the government passed a law that forced all independant oil wells to be shut down in the United States, or at least Oklahoma.

The guy said you wouldn’t believe how much oil we still have here in the U.S. but that the government only wants to try and purchase foreign oil. I guess cause it’s cheaper and they can use it as an excuse to hike up prices or some shit. Who really knows.

Can’t say I’m surprised.

Christmas Morning

December 25th 2006

It’s a tradition to get up before 6am to open presents, so we did. My dad loved his gifts, I got him a cast-iron waffle maker, since the old electric one he uses looks like it’s from the 50’s and I’m always afraid it’ll burn the house down. I got him a hickory-handle set of butchering knives, since we’ve been doing a lot of that lately and he really needed one. A t-shirt that shows the four indian chiefs above the presidents on Mt. Washington as the real founding fathers, a book on living with chickens (more as a joke than anything, but I’m sure it has useful information), a set of John Wayne movies and my sweetheart got him a bright yellow case pocket knife so he can see it when he drops it in the grass.

My dad got me a lot of books that I wanted, some books on tanning skins, butchering basic stock, various other wilderness subjects, a new hunting knife, a knife/axe set with a gut hook to take camping, some of my favorite chocolates, a boar-bristle brush like I’ve always wanted, some new socks so I don’t have to wear ones with holes in them anymore, and of course my BOW. I love my bow, I can’t stop playing with it, it’s quite ridiculous. My sweetheart also got me an awesome new keyboard for my computer, since the one I have now is pretty much obselete.

We’ve had an interesting morning so far. My dad apparently threw his turkey cooker away… He has the habit of sticking it over the trash can to drain, and sometimes stuff falls in and he doesn’t realize it and it gets thrown away. We figured we weren’t going to be able to have a christmas turkey at all now. So before dawn we’re both out in our slippers in the garage sorting through the stuff from my marriage and found my huge cooker pans.

So far we still have gas for the turkey, which is all we’re using gas for. We turned off the hot water heater, so no shower for me for a while, and we’re cooking bacon and coffee on the woodstove. I just don’t want to try cooking a turkey on the stove, cause you can’t control the temperature. Plus I imagine pioneers mostly put them over spits and turned them over an open fire, which we don’t want to try and do outside on christmas day :)

Gas

December 24th 2006

Well, we smell gas. Which usually means we’re going to run out tomorrow or the next day. Which means Suburban Propane is late……..again. Which means we might not be able to cook Christmas Dinner tomorrow.

Thanks Suburban. And thanks for the added bonus of requiring a $250 cash deposit (which we can’t afford, and won’t pay) in addition to the $150 quarterly bill which my dad sent off two weeks ago for you to come out.

I’m glad I don’t have work on Tuesday, I don’t think we’d have any hot water to take a shower with.

But! Perhaps we can try cooking everything on the woodstove, pioneer style.
