Pagans and Egyptian Percussion
January 12th 2008
I decided on a whim to go down to Baltimore tonight to hang out with some of the local pagan folk. I had a good time, bought a few goodies, and started some networking as Senior Druid. Several folks seemed happy to meet me, others I had already known or seen around at local events. And I now have a place to buy my favorite Triloka Amber Resin.
By extreme randomness, a rather famous musician of Egyptian Percussion that I had on my Myspace, had their account hacked. I decided to inform them of this fact (and how to prevent it in the future) after receiving several spam bulletins, and they were very grateful. Turns out he is interested in me redoing his website, and wants to know if I would help him out.
I didn’t realize how famous he really was until I saw videos of him playing with Led Zeppelin and that his music is featured in the movie Stardust, and on various albums for people like Jay-Z and Loreena McKennitt. Wow.
Anyway, more networking, and though the pay will be good either in cash or cd’s and such, I’m just hoping to do more networking in the music field as well.

Tax Return: Debt or Savings?
January 11th 2008
So tax season is upon us, and I expect a decent amount back in taxes. My dilemma is currently whether I should place the return into savings, or put it towards the balance left on my mustang. The bonus of having no other debts.
I’m leaning towards the former, simply because I really want to reach the $5k balance in my emergency savings as a security cushion. A friend of mine recently posted an entry about a chunk of car troubles he had that amounted to $1,000, and normally this would devastate his finances, but he had an emergency fund to take care of it. So it served its purpose. That and it’s good security should you lose your job and need to live off of the emergency fund for a few months.
So it’s pretty important. I can still work towards making extra payments on the mustang so I can pay it off early. It’ll just take longer. It may be more expensive in the long run to put the money into savings instead of paying off the mustang earlier, but I’ll feel more secure.
Course I could always put it into my Roth IRA too

Sister’s Date and Identity Theft
January 4th 2008
My sister called me this morning to ask if she could come over sometime this weekend. We’ve set up a time for her to come over tomorrow morning to open the gifts I got her for Christmas. She says tomorrow night she has a date. Wait…what? She’s 13 years old, will be 14 on Sunday, and she’s going on dates? I thought I was young going on my first “date” a month before I turned 15.
And so it begins.
I got a call from BB&T today stating that someone had attempted to make a purchase in Italy with my bank card. I haven’t used my BB&T account for some time now, and had already requested it be closed several months ago. But it’s still uneasy to know that somehow my information got out, despite how careful I am.
Fortunately the purchase was blocked, and I will be checking my credit report for any other unsavory items. I suppose I had best evaluate things a bit more and see if I slipped up somewhere and what other preventative measures I can take.
It is definitely a bonus in BB&T’s favor though that they took the initiative to look into this for me. Unfortunately I am no longer a client of theirs.

Consumer: DHL Debacle, Next Day Shipping takes Two Weeks
January 4th 2008
On Friday December 14th my sweetheart ordered me a 19″ Dell monitor to be delivered to me with next day shipping (we figured Monday the 17th or Tuesday the 18th). He worked with my father on setting up a set of days for my father to stay home and wait for the delivery so he could wrap it before I saw it (because obviously it’s going to say DELL on the box).
