Holiday Shopping Lynch Mobs: Consumerism Rage

November 20th 2006

I hate holiday shopping.

So much that I don’t even go out to do holiday shopping if I can help it, I order what I need to online.

What I hate worse is the mobs, and they are at the stores AND online.

For example: Nintendo Wii sells out in a matter of minutes, and customers actually have the gall to write reviews and complaints to Amazon.com because they didn’t get theirs.

wtf?

Or the people trying to sell PS3 for hundreds of THOUSANDS of dollars. The majority of which are at least doubling the price.

When did America become so materialistic that we’re willing to camp out for days at a time to get the latest and greatest piece of plastic and wire to sate our kids ADD and empty our bank accounts? Are my children going to love me any less because instead I buy them something beneficial to their learning and upbringing? Are they going to be less cool than all of their friends?

Will I really care?

And it’s not just the greedy consumer, it’s the companies that release such things right before the holidays, knowing full well that people will throw out their morals to get their hands on these new arcs of the covenant.

Did you know people are being shot and murdered for these things?

Censorship on the Web

September 12th 2006

I have to applaud Jimmy Wales from Wikipedia. He’s absolutely right in advocating that other major websites (like Google and Microsoft) not give in to China’s request to censor their content or risk being banned in their country like Wikipedia has been.

I think it’s ridiculous, if not extremely suspicious that China is this paranoid about dissension among its people due to exposure to neutral (Wikipedia has always had neutral content), yet uncensored information.

Many kudos to him for sticking to his guns.

9/11

September 11th 2006

I can’t really post anything memorial or sentimental about today that hasn’t already been said by me or somebody else. Instead I’ll link to my recollection of what I was doing on this day 5 years ago.

Rest in Peace

September 4th 2006

Article Here:

Steve Irwin, the hugely popular Australian television personality and conservationist known as the “Crocodile Hunter,” was killed Monday by a stingray while filming off the Great Barrier Reef. He was 44.

“He came on top of the stingray and the stingray’s barb went up and into his chest and put a hole into his heart,” said Stainton, who was on board Irwin’s boat at the time.

More terrorists

August 10th 2006

Man that’s gotta be some scary shit, being at an airport and finding out that your plane might have been one of 10 that had a bomb on it.

What the fuck. Fuckin terrorists. Seriously what exactly are they hoping to accomplish with all this. I may not know all of the reasons they are pissed off, but once they blow up half the planet, do they expect the other half to say “Oh I’m sorry….I didn’t know you were upset, let me give you a hug.”

And I hate religion.

Conan 2008

August 4th 2006

Anyone who knows me in the slightest, knows in great detail how excited I am about this. My obsession with this storyline is unparalleled (or any swordfighting and barbaric means, really).

I am curious to see who they pick to play the part. I actually used to write down small pieces of dreams I’d have about a third movie within this storyline, what would happen, who would play the characters, etc.

It better not disappoint me.

Bed-ridden

I’ve been bed-ridden since I came home from the Grove on Saturday. My fever spiked at 103 yesterday. Angelo called me around 10 last night to make sure I was okay, and my fever broke about 11pm. Today I just have no voice and am very weak. But I can move […]
