Bargaining $500 for an Old Broken Down F-150

July 14th 2008

I called the two gentlemen who stopped by and asked to buy my 1979 F-150 short-bed, and told them they could have it for $500, and they agreed :) It has a blown 460 engine (which only got 7 miles to the gallon anyway), flat tires, and needs some body work. Not to mention part of the frame was cut out by the previous owner to put the 460 in it (dumbass).

They will be setting up an appointment with my father sometime this week to stop by and pick it up. Which means I don’t have to pay $100 to haul it wherever we end up, nor do I have to worry about fixing it up or putting in a new engine. I can just be rid of it.

I’m curious, however… the guy I spoke with said he -really- wanted this truck. I don’t know what could really be so special about it except that it’s a short-bed, and 79 short-beds weren’t very popular and are kinda rare. It sorta peaked my interest in keeping it, but I wouldn’t have the time to deal with that anyway.

As much as I’d like to keep it and restore it, it’s just not worth it to me for several years. The bronco will come first as far as restoration, and that will take several years on its own.

Bye bye F-150, I will miss you.

To my Friends

July 3rd 2008

The following people have donated money so far to help with the down payment of whichever house we get:

Adalon from the MUD
Bonnie from the UK
Stacey from NC
Art from ADF
Sharon from ADF
Kim from ADF
Anna S
The Sweetheart
My best friend from highschool, Jake
Caryn and Will

There are still a few pending that said they may help out, but haven’t given amounts yet.

I know a few people wrote that they wished they could give more and that they were sorry for the little amount they could donate. There’s absolutely no reason to be sorry. You donated what you could to help out someone in need, to me that’s heroic.

As soon as I know of the exact amount needed vs the exact amount donated, I will post it here. If I’ve been given too much, I will start refunding people. I will probably start paying back the smaller amounts first to get them out of the way (not to mention other people need money just as much as I do), and then start hammering out the larger donations.

Request for Help

July 1st 2008

Those following my blog know that my dad and I are in a position to be out on the streets because our landlord has given us an eviction notice because they are selling the property. We have an option to buy, which we are going to try and take, but need to raise money for the down payment which comes to $5700. I am asking anyone and everyone who can contribute to help out, with whatever amount.

So please think about it, and let me know ASAP if you are willing. Paypal contributions can be sent to crystal [at] adventmud.org

“Many purchases these days are a waste. They are simply people buying things they don’t need with money they don’t have to impress people they don’t like.”

Selling Junk to Pay off the Car and Why Can’t Big Companies Follow Directions

May 21st 2008

I guess I shouldn’t really call it junk, because it’s all usable stuff.

So far I’ve sold:

Malachite Earrings on Etsy: $5
Peridot and Silver Ring on Etsy: $20
Rose Quartz Pendant on Etsy: $20
Complete Xena Seasons on Ebay: $110
Frontline for 11-22lb Dogs on Ebay: $20
Rainbow Opal Ring on Etsy: $20

Total: $195 putting towards the car.

Not to mention the Stimulus payment plus some excess money I had lying around which came to $1200 towards the car.

The recent sales will be written out in check form at the beginning of next week.

I think HSBC fails at reading memos on checks. When I sent them the check for $1200 I clearly put “TO PRINCIPAL” in the memo field with my account number. Did they do that? Of course not. So I had to call last night and straighten it out. I do have to give them credit though, they resolve their issues quickly, as I noticed it was applied directly to the principal today.

Verizon also didn’t cancel my account when I called in on May 1st after I had Comcast Triple Play installed. Actually they canceled it 12 days later, which means I was charged for 12 days of service that I didn’t have. So I called them up on Monday and attempted to straighten it out, but Marcus, whom I spoke with in customer service, said to call back when my “final” bill arrives and they’ll take care of it. But both he and the lady I spoke with in the financial department both saw that I called in on the 1st to cancel.

Dispute Negative Items on your Credit

May 15th 2008

In my……..lax financial days (read as…3 years ago or so), I was late paying a small ($200-$300) balance on a card. Years before that, around 1999, my ex-husband and I had a card in both of our names, that he was making late payments on. Both of these things still show up on my credit report.

Some advice from a co-worker had me dispute both items on my credit about 2 weeks ago. Whether they were mine or not he said just say that they aren’t yours, and a lot of times some companies will be too busy or have little interest in a counter-dispute. I was skeptical, but hey it’s worth a try.

I got my results back today from Equifax, and 1 of the items has been removed (the one from 1999), but the other will stay. I still call that a great victory, and am unsure whether it will up my credit score any. I am tempted to pay the money to get my FICO score, because even looking at my report it doesn’t really tell me where I rate in the whole FICO score area.

If I do find a good cheap place to get it, I’ll post it here later with my score.

Heart Principal Payments

May 15th 2008

$1200 check on it’s way towards the Principal of the mustang.

Now if I can just get more things sold on ebay and add to that :) It’s actually kinda fun and liberating to go through all of the things that I just don’t need or use anymore and realize that I can sell them off.

I’ve even snagged some pictures of items I bought (Cleopatra bracelets mostly) fairly recently and am reselling them with the original pictures (I figure why waste time making new pictures). I love the bracelets, but I’ve come to realize that I really can’t wear stuff that can’t handle hard labor. Metal or leather are fine, but you’ll never catch me wearing some fancy stone or glass bracelet, cause I guarantee it’ll be broke within a week.

Anyway, pass the word if you know of anyone who would want any of this stuff.

If Fees Were Deducted, or You Received a Rapid Refund, Stimulus Could be Delayed

May 7th 2008

Even if you had direct deposit, according to the IRS website, if filing or preparation fees were deducted from your 2007 Refund or you received a rapid refund, you will be receiving a check instead of a direct deposit.

That sucks for some people (thankfully not for me) who were depending on a payment sooner than later.

Fortunately the IRS website also has a way to login and check your Stimulus Payment Schedule as well as the amount that you will be sure to get back.

I’m still on track to receive $600 by May 9th.
