20th Anniversary of Nintendo

October 18th 2006

According to this article, today is the 20th Anniversary of the original Nintendo Entertainment System released in the United States. And boy what a ride it’s been.

NintendoI was an Atari addict at a young age, Space Invaders, Pitfall, I even had the E.T. game for Atari 2600. But when Nintendo came out, I was 6, and lucky enough to be the first in the family to have one. My cousin Jon and I would play religiously, especially Street Fighter II, where he’d always kick my ass.

However, the all-time best game on any Nintendo platform is Zelda. It doesn’t matter what version, NES, SNES, N64, I played and loved them all. I think to celebrate, I might break out the NES and Zelda later tonight.

Autumn and Organic Toothpaste

October 12th 2006

A lot of people have come out of the webwork lately. A friend I haven’t talked to in about 3 years or more, stopped by the MUD today to say hi. Another guy I used to game (WW mostly) with almost 7 years ago sent me an IM out of the blue to my old Screen Name today. Makes me want to try and get ahold of some of my old RPG buddies. I suprisingly still keep in touch with a lot of them.

I’ve been finding my drives to work in the morning more and more meaningful. Morning time seems to be the “happiest” time of day (besides the moment where I get to go home from work), and always seems the most motivated and inspired. Such as noticing that my favorite part of Autumn is when the leaves on the trees start to look like fire. I don’t mean when they just turn orange, but those trees that have the leaves that are bright yellow with tips that are fiery red, they literally look like they are on fire.

I also tend to wish I had left work an hour earlier so I can take my time stopping along the road to snap photographs of various things on the way in, since morning tends to find the most beautiful situations for photos. Such as the single tractor in the middle of the hay field this morning, or the spray of leaves over the wood-covered road, or the wooden fence posts that were half knocked down along the road.

A small herd of young children in Libertytown were waiting along the road to catch their bus this morning. They kept making motions for the cars that go by to honk their horns, but nobody would, so I decided to. Their cheers of glee made me smile and remember how much -I- used to try to get people to beep their horns when I was a kid too. It also reminds me how much I do want to have children some day, even if that seems like such a far off dream.

I also started using Kiss my Face organic toothpaste about 3 months ago. I notice when I used big brand toothpaste, it tends to upset my stomach in the morning, and anything you drink or eat afterwards tasted really funky. However with the organic stuff, I actually love the taste of it (like minty dirt or something, it’s weird :P), it doesn’t make anything taste weird, and it doesn’t upset my stomach. It also doesn’t have fluoride, which I think is mainly what causes me all the problems.

Back to school for Dad?

April 3rd 2006

My dad starts a series of weekly classes for the month of April today, which is required by Medicare to cover his diabetes. Supposidly in these classes he will learn about eating with diabetes and other information he should know in order to properly “live” with diabetes.

I’m a little nervous about them myself. My father was never very good with education when he was in grade school, and I don’t want him to feel intimidated or bored or anything like that. In a way I wish I could go with him, but I can’t due to work.

I have an interview set up for a web design position. Though I realized I uploaded an older version of my resume layout, so that’s currently fucked up. I’ll have to fix that when I get home.

Things on the MUD are going great. I’ve been fleshing out a lot of theme with the staff on the forum. I expect we’ll be able to open up at the end of spring/early summer. My new builders are doing a fantastic job, and I have beta testers stopping by constantly to also offer ideas and are just anxious in general.

Money is a little tight at the moment, only because of having to submit the paperwork for the divorce, and having a few excess bills to pay. I expect it will be like this the majority of April. Perhaps this summer things will settle down a bit. Then again, I expect a better paying job will help out with that a lot too.

“That Punk upstart MUD”

March 27th 2006

Or something along those lines.

That’s what some jackass from Cities of M’dhoria is now calling my MUD. And when Sativa and Graven find out, they are apparently going to sue us!

We’ll just ignore the fact that Advent has been up since 2001.

We’ll ignore the fact that Graven, Sativa, Wyare, and Delshara have all done work on Advent, long before I ever stepped foot on CoM, which was only for what 6 months last year? In fact, Sativa and Wyare -gave- me their prog code, to which I give them full credit for in help credits. And that we are technically sister MUDs.

We’ll ignore the fact that CoM is hosted on the adventmud.org servers, and that I regularly maintain any server issues and backups so they don’t lose any information.

We’ll ignore the fact that I still keep in touch with a lot of the staff from CoM.

We’ll ignore the fact that Advent is completely different from CoM, different races, different setting, no classes, no alignments, no levels

I emailed it to Sativa because it amused me, it’ll probably amuse him too.

Cavernous Dream

July 27th 2005

I had another dream last night that was in pretty explicit detail. I woke up and did some brief sketches of the scenery and will try to describe the rest here, though it’s slowly fading from my mind already.

I found myself at the bottom of a hole, how I got there I don’t think was part of the dream. Almost as if on a desolate planet, in an empty hollow cave with gutteral howls from its depths. I was there with many people, Chronarchy was one of them (why are you always in my weird dreams?), and some other people I don’t recognize. I’d say 100 people in all. At the end of the hole it opened up into a huge cavern. Very dark crimson, carved from the stone. To my left was a small ramp that lead into another room in the cavern, there were stone tables, where the majority of the people were sitting. Chronarchy was at one, displaying some clay trees he had made, like pottery. He offered me a red and brown one, but I had a brown and green one from him already.

The people weren’t really talking much, it was very quiet. So I went back down the ramp to the part below the hole, and I noticed while on the ramp, you could see through another whole in the ceiling of the cavern. Through that hole you could see a small cave with skulls, very gray, very dark, the walls covered with cobwebs and various pieces of something, flesh maybe, hanging from them. Every time I looked at it I kept saying “My god what did they do here?”

To the other side of the cave, also a very dark crimson, was another wall of cobwebs, stone, and possibly flesh and cloth. The walls were not solid, instead they were more like beamsor studs from ceiling to floor that you walked through. At the first layer of wall, there was a huge gray skull. I walked through one of the walls into the other cave and was greeted by another ramp that lead to what looked like a podium. But the podium had controls on it written in some alien tongue. Behind me appeared to be a screen of sorts to display whatever it is those controls did. As soon as you stood at the podium, it lit up as if the power was turned on. Of course I started pushing buttons…and then I woke up.

Still deciding if I can use this on my MUD or not.

My Dream

November 20th 2004

I am not a writer.

This story came from a dream I had a few months ago about my cousin Jerry and I who I used to be extremelly close to. I based it off of my MUD.

Very rough draft.
